Uber and the US Embassy in Romania are coming together for a special celebration, called Route 250, marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence, a historic moment that laid the foundations of the United States of America. For one day, five vintage American cars will become part of a special Uber experience, giving those interested the chance to discover the city from a different perspective and to celebrate an important moment in American history.
On Sunday, September 27, starting at 12:00 PM, those who wish to take part in the event are expected at the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel, where Uber will set up a dedicated activation space. The special rides will depart from the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel, cross the historic Cotroceni neighborhood, and return to the starting point.
A unique experience in Bucharest
The collaboration brings together two stories tied to American mobility: the iconic cars that marked generations and became part of American culture, and Uber, a company founded in the US, which has since become part of everyday urban mobility in cities around the world, including in Romania.
For the occasion, Uber is bringing together a selection of classic American models: Cadillac Blue Pearl, Buick GS, Cadillac 70, Ford LTD and Ford Galaxy 2, giving participants the chance to discover the style and personality of different eras in American car culture.
“Uber was born in the United States, and over the past decade it has also become part of the way people get around in Romania. This activation gives us the chance to celebrate that connection, bringing together two very different chapters of American mobility: iconic vintage cars and the urban mobility experience people know today. We’re happy to mark this anniversary together with the US Embassy and the people of Bucharest,” stated Iwona Kruk, Communications Manager CEE.
The JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel is joining the initiative and will be the starting point of the experience, where participants will be welcomed in a dedicated, Uber-branded space, and at a photo corner inspired by the aesthetic of American road trips. This way, visitors will be able to step into the atmosphere of the event before setting off on the vintage ride through the city.
The first passenger was Darryl Nirenberg, the US Ambassador to Romania, who stated: “As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, I’m glad to celebrate the ideas, innovations, entrepreneurial initiatives and cultural symbols that have traveled beyond the borders of the United States of America. Classic cars also tell part of the American story. And Uber is one of the companies that has become part of everyday life in Romania. This collaboration is a very good example of the strong ties between our countries.”
How to participate
Those who want to take part in the Uber vintage car experience are expected at the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel on September 27, between 12:00 PM–10:00 PM. The five vintage cars will run special rides during the activation (lasting between 20-25 minutes each), and participation is free, subject to available spots, with no registration required.
The event is part of the series of initiatives through which Uber and the US Embassy are celebrating Route 250, the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.
