ENVIRON and Boiler transform recycling into a new urban Thursday ritual
There are habits that structure our week without us even realizing it: the Thursday morning coffee, the meeting with colleagues, the commute to the office. But there are also objects we forget in drawers for too long: old phones, broken tablets, or smartwatches we no longer use.
Starting from this reality, Asociația ENVIRON and Boiler are launching THURSDAY TRADE-IN, the campaign that transforms recycling into a natural gesture, integrated into the daily routine.
Between September 17 and November 26, every Thursday, between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM, seven Boiler cafés in Bucharest become spaces where old electronics find their way to recycling, and participants receive in exchange one more reason for a good morning: a coffee.
The last thing your old phone does? It buys you a coffee.
The mechanic is simple: if you’re already heading to Boiler for your usual coffee, you bring along the phone, tablet, or smartwatch you no longer use and hand them in for recycling. In return, you receive a coffee offered by ENVIRON.
“There are journeys we make anyway, which is why our projects start from this simple idea: if you’re already going, why not bring along an old electronic to recycle? We aim for recycling to no longer be one more thing you have to remember to do, but a gesture that naturally enters your routine. THURSDAY TRADE-IN does exactly that: it ties recycling to one of the simplest urban rituals the morning coffee. You come with your old phone, we find it the way to recycling, and Boiler makes the coffee,” declared Roxana Puia, Communications Director of ENVIRON.
The campaign runs simultaneously at the following locations:

- Boiler @The Yuppies, Strada Ceasornicului no. 6

- Boiler @Bazilescu, Strada Barlogeni no. 58
All locations are already integrated into the Unde Reciclam network and have dedicated collection points for small electrical waste, offering the community an accessible and permanent solution for recycling.
From UNDErGrowth to THURSDAY TRADE-IN
The partnership between ENVIRON and Boiler continues the collaboration begun this summer through the UNDErGrowth project. While UNDErGrowth started a conversation about nature, resources, and the possibility of transformation, THURSDAY TRADE-IN takes the conversation further and transforms it into a concrete gesture. Because change begins when a responsible gesture simply becomes a habit.
Behind the campaign stands the same conviction that inspired the entire project: Nature wastes nothing. Why should we?
