With just a few days left before National Cleanup Day, Romania is mobilizing for the country’s largest environmental volunteering action. Over 179,000 volunteers have already signed up to take part, on September 19, in cleanup actions organized simultaneously across all counties of the country and in Bucharest. The Let’s Do It, Romania! central team in Bucharest and 41 county coordinators will help and guide the Romanians who get involved in collecting waste from nature and leaving behind clean places.
Those who wish to take part in National Cleanup Day can check the map of meeting points and cleanup areas across the country, available here: Map of meeting points. The map will be updated until September 18, one day before the volunteering action.
Coordinated by Let’s Do It, Romania!, the country’s largest social movement, National Cleanup Day turns, year after year, civic involvement into a massive action with a beneficial impact for both nature and people, and brings together those who believe that change starts with a simple gesture. The initiative is organized simultaneously in 190 countries through the global Let’s Do It World movement. From pupils, students and teachers, to families, friends, companies and local and national authorities, participants contribute to cleaning up areas affected by abandoned waste and to building a culture of environmental responsibility.

Over 2.9 million Romanians have gotten involved, from 2010 to the present, in cleanup actions alongside the Let’s Do It, Romania! team and have collected over 32,399 tons of waste.
Registration for National Cleanup Day, on September 19, is done online, at app.letsdoitromania.ro. Participation is open to everyone, regardless of age or prior experience. Volunteers can choose the cleanup location closest to them and receive bags and gloves for the action from the coordinators.
National Cleanup Day has become officially recognized through Law 266/2024. Through this campaign, the organizers aim, besides collecting tons of waste from nature, to also raise people’s awareness about the environment and about what they leave behind. This year’s theme for National Cleanup Day is “What do you leave behind?” and calls for reflection and awareness of every gesture in everyday life.
