Smiley, Theo Rose’s “waltz partner,” drew his inspiration for “Ultimul dans” from his parents’ love story, who were among the first to hear it:
“I played the song for my parents, and after the first chords, they stood up and began to dance, not knowing they were my inspiration for this waltz. I think they felt it and instantly connected to it. It’s incredibly moving to compose and sing about love in its most profound manifestations. I believe in lifelong loves—I see this in my parents and other couples—and I also believe that the waltz is their music, our music, and the music of anyone who loves and is eternally in love.
