LOEWE’s journey through time and craft: The ‘Crafted World’ Exhibit in Tokyo

LOEWE has brought its distinctive blend of art and craftsmanship to Tokyo with its latest exhibition, “Crafted World.” Hosted in the vibrant Harajuku district, the show spreads across 1,300 square meters and is organized into thematic rooms, each reflecting the brand’s innovative approach to fashion and craftsmanship. This marks the first major showcase for the House in this trendy area, highlighting its 179-year journey through the artisanal world.

Designed in collaboration with the cutting-edge OMA studio, “Crafted World” offers a retrospective look at LOEWE’s evolution from its inception in 1846 as a collective of leather artisans in Madrid to its status as a global luxury icon. The exhibition not only showcases pivotal moments in the House’s history but also serves as an homage to the art of handmade craftsmanship in its purest form.

As visitors wander through the exhibit, they are immersed in a sensory experience that combines soundscapes and visuals inspired by Spain, Paris, and Japan. Special attention is given to LOEWE’s most notable collaborations, including those with Studio Ghibli and the ceramics duo Suna Fujita. These partnerships underline the brand’s commitment to blending traditional techniques with contemporary artistry.

Moreover, “Crafted World” acknowledges the significant bond between LOEWE and Japan, a country where the brand first expanded outside Europe in 1973. This deep connection is celebrated within the context of the exhibition, situated in one of Tokyo’s most dynamic locales.

The exhibition also caters to younger audiences with interactive spaces designed to educate and inspire children about the magic of handmade craftsmanship. These engaging installations provide a fun and educational element to the experience, making “Crafted World” a family-friendly destination.

“Crafted World Tokyo” is open from March 29 to May 11, 2025, at 6 Chome-35-6 Jingumae, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0001. It promises to be a journey of discovery for those who cherish the art of craftsmanship and the stories behind luxury fashion.
