Romanians travel more this easter 2025: Kiwi.com reveals trends

Bucharest, March 28 – This Easter, Romanians are taking full advantage of the holiday, traveling in larger numbers, spending more time away from home, and allocating a larger budget compared to last year. Kiwi.com, a leader in the travel-tech industry, has analyzed this spring’s trends, unveiling key insights.

This year, Easter sees Romanians traveling more than ever, with an 89% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Despite the average ticket price rising by 37.68% to €180, many are opting for longer holidays, with an average duration of nearly 9 days. Unlike Romanians, neighbors from Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary limit their stays to an average of 5-6 days.

Popular Destinations and New Trends

Italy, Spain, Moldova, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany remain top preferences for Romanian tourists. Meanwhile, Turkey and Greece are becoming increasingly attractive, likely due to their favorable climates and rich cultural heritage, showing impressive booking increases of 121.5% and 125%, respectively.

Among the favorite cities are Chișinău, Milan, Venice, Rome, and Paris, but Vienna leads the trend destinations with a nearly 600% increase in bookings compared to last Easter.

Travel Trends and Habits

Most Romanians set off on their holidays between April 16 and 18, with many extending their stays beyond Easter. While 51% opt for short getaways of 1-3 days, 24% go for trips of 4-6 days, and 13% spend between 7 and 10 days at their destination.

Regarding flight preferences, Romanians continue to favor short to medium routes, which account for 46% and 51% of all bookings, respectively. However, compared to last Easter, prices have significantly increased: short-distance flights have gone up by 41.13% to €131, and medium-distance flights by 58.24% to €202. Long-distance flights remain a less common choice (only 3% of bookings), with a slight decrease of 1.11% in the average ticket price from last year.

Bookings during Easter week have substantially increased, with 67.2% more passengers than the following week. Demand remains high after Easter as well, with a 64.1% increase in bookings compared to the same period last year.

A notable trend this year is the growing popularity of family trips, which now account for 21% of all bookings, up from 13% last year. This trend likely reflects increasing confidence in Kiwi.com’s Guarantee service, which provides protection to passengers in case of delays or cancellations.

With continuously rising demand and a clear preference for major European cities, Romanians are preparing to make Easter 2025 a memorable travel moment, ready to explore both familiar and new destinations.

*Data is based on Kiwi.com bookings made by Romanian citizens up to March 20, 2025, for flights between April 14-20, 2025. Data for 2024 refers to bookings made up to February 29, 2024, for flights between March 25-31, 2024.
