Colombian-born designer Haider Ackermann, known for his precise and sensual aesthetic, has been appointed Creative Director of Tom Ford, effective immediately.
Ackermann, who is based in Paris, has earned critical acclaim for his recent collaborations, including his work with Jean-Paul Gaultier on the French brand’s Spring-Summer 2023 haute couture collection and his role as the first-ever creative director of outerwear brand Canada Goose in May. Before these ventures, Ackermann ran his own eponymous fashion label, which closed in 2020, and served as creative director for LVMH’s Berluti.
Ackermann succeeds Peter Hawkings, the long-time design deputy of the brand’s founder, Tom Ford, who exited the brand in July after two seasons as creative director.
Ackermann joins Tom Ford, owned by Estée Lauder with its fashion business licensed to Zegna, with the founder’s full support. “I have long been a great admirer of Haider’s work,” Ford said in a statement. “He is an incredible colorist, his tailoring is sharp, and above all, he is modern.”
