TikTok changed fashion. But where is it taking us?

When a trend lasts three weeks, is it even a trend or just noise?

Today you’re mob wife. Tomorrow, quiet luxury. The day after, nobody knows.

TikTok turned fashion into a nonstop stream of micro-trends. Seasons are dead. Personal style is in crisis. And yet it’s not that simple.

On one hand, the democratisation is real.

Young designers from Bucharest, Lagos, or Manila now share the same platform as the biggest fashion houses. A 30-second video can launch a trend faster than any Paris show. That’s a genuine shift in power.

On the other hand, speed kills depth.

When everything goes viral and disappears in 72 hours, you don’t have time to understand why you like something. You buy because the algorithm told you it was the moment. Not because it actually belongs to you.

Personal style takes time to build. You make mistakes, experiment, come back to things. TikTok has no patience for that.

So what do we do?

Maybe the answer isn’t to run from TikTok. It’s to use it differently as a source of inspiration, not a shopping list. Know who you are before you start scrolling.

Fashion survived fast fashion. It’ll survive the algorithm too. But your personal style? That one’s on you.
