September 20, 2025 marked a historic edition of the National Cleanup Day, organized by Let’s Do It, Romania!, the largest social movement in the country. For the first time, the action took place under Law no. 266/2024, by which the third Saturday of September was declared the National Cleanup Day in Romania. It was the thirteenth edition and, at the same time, an anniversary year in which Let’s Do It, Romania! celebrated 15 years of activity.
The results of this year confirm the strength of communities: 270,542 volunteers participated in the national action and collected 427,101 bags of waste, the equivalent of approximately 2,383,787 kilograms, from 41 counties and Bucharest.
“This moment is proof that when civil society, authorities and citizens pull in the same direction, mindsets can change and national traditions can be created. The National Cleanup Day is now part of the law, and this holds us all accountable to continue to protect the environment. We are grateful for the involvement of the over 270,000 volunteers who show us that Romania has the resources and the energy to transform itself.” — Ștefan Buciuc, President of the “Let’s Do It, Romania!” Association.
