MM6 Maison Margiela SS25: Deconstruction meets dystopian aesthetics

MM6 Maison Margiela returned to Milan Fashion Week with a Spring-Summer 2025 collection that once again elevates the brand’s signature deconstructive approach. Set against a backdrop that felt straight out of a dystopian future, with smog-filled air and low lighting, the runway show encapsulated the house’s avant-garde vision, blending industrial elements with the familiar deconstructed style that has long defined the Maison Margiela identity.

The collection was a tribute to Margiela’s original ethos, using translucent, almost plastic-like materials, with intentionally uneven construction that embraced imperfection. The color palette was dominated by titanium white, a nod to the brand’s ongoing obsession with neutral tones, taken to an almost clinical level.

Silhouettes echoed the brand’s early years, with oversized sweatshirts, structured waistcoats, and bold XXL sports eyewear. Hyper-distressed denim, a Margiela staple, was transformed with a modern twist: ripped jeggings and exaggerated V-necklines, normally passé in other collections, were given new life through the house’s deconstructive lens.

One standout moment featured a sleeveless top, reminiscent of a crumpled plastic bag, worn with nude jeans and ultra-polished gold accessories. This look subtly critiqued fast fashion and counterfeit culture, which has imitated Margiela designs without grasping their true essence. Whether intentionally or not, MM6 continues to explore the tension between deconstruction and reproduction, a theme that is central to Margiela’s creative DNA.
