Bucharest, June 18. For Romanians traveling in 2025, it’s no longer just about the destination, but about how and why they choose to go on holiday.
According to the latest data from Kiwi.com, a leader in travel-tech, Romanian men and women approach vacations in different ways: from how they pack and choose destinations, to how they manage their budget and prioritize experiences.
Women travel more often and with a clear purpose
In 2025, Romanian women are leading the way in terms of travel frequency and motivation.
Over 21% of them plan to travel 2–3 times throughout the year, compared to only 14.7% of men.
For women, travel holds deeper meaning: 60.1% travel to explore and discover new cultures or for personal development (compared to 47.2% of men).
“Calmcation” holidays, focused on relaxation and well-being, are becoming increasingly popular among women: 42.2%seek this type of experience.
When it comes to planning, Romanian women are highly organized: over half carefully check their travel documents, 26% bring emergency funds, and 15.6% choose to travel with just a backpack – for efficiency and flexibility.
Men prefer distant destinations and spontaneous adventures
Even though they don’t travel as often as women, Romanian men more frequently choose far-off destinations.
11% of them plan at least one trip outside of Europe this year, compared to only 4.1% of women.
They are also more inclined to combine travel with work: 12.6% travel for business, versus 3.9% of women.
When choosing a destination, men focus on efficiency and safety, with 44.8% naming these as essential criteria.
They are also more open to spontaneity: 26.6% prefer last-minute getaways or lesser-known destinations (compared to 18.7% of women).
Even though they are practical planners, nearly a third (27.6%) admit their packing can get out of hand, with too many clothes or books.
Vacation budgets: flexibility vs. advance planning
When it comes to budgeting, Romanian women prefer to adjust their travel plans according to their means.
They choose more affordable accommodation options and focus on lived experiences rather than luxury.
Flexibility helps them save: 20.7% are willing to change their travel dates to find better prices (versus 12.4% of men).
On the other hand, men are more likely to say they can travel without restrictions or that they book vacations early to stay within budget.
Both value early bookings, but their approaches differ: men pay more attention to logistics, while women look for the best price-to-quality ratio.
