Bucharest, June 6 – When it comes to vacations, Romanians don’t choose between popular attractions and hidden places – on the contrary, they want to explore both. According to a survey conducted by Kiwi.com, a leading travel-tech company, most respondents take a balanced approach when planning their holidays. However, some subtle differences appear in how men and women explore the world.
In general, Romanians don’t skip the “must-see” tourist attractions: 76% say they wouldn’t give up visiting a major attraction, even if it’s very crowded. Men are more likely to visit famous landmarks just to say they’ve been there (58% vs. 45% of women), while women tend to be more selective. 54.4% say they avoid lines unless they’re genuinely interested in that place, compared to 33.6% of men.
And since we’re talking about famous attractions, Romanians know how to beat the queues: nearly 80% use skip-the-linetickets or visit outside peak hours — either early in the morning or late in the evening — to avoid crowds and long waits.
Although iconic landmarks remain popular, more and more Romanians are also interested in local, lesser-known treasures. 86% of respondents say they like to combine main attractions with off-the-beaten-path spots discovered on their own.
A dose of realism is also present in vacation planning: 71% of Romanians surveyed believe that many so-called “hidden gems” are already overrun with tourists. Even so, their curiosity for exploration doesn’t fade. Over 81% say they turn to locals to find authentic experiences. Both men and women agree: true gems lie beyond tourist maps, and locals can become the best guides with the most valuable recommendations.
When discovering a truly special place, many Romanians prefer to keep the information to themselves: nearly 59% say they don’t usually share such discoveries. Men tend to be more discreet, with 32% clearly stating they prefer to keep these places “secret,” compared to 22% of women.
Whether it’s a selfie in front of the Colosseum or a hidden café known only by locals, Romanians travel with curiosity and intent, planning vacations that blend famous sights with authentic, local experiences.
