CONCEPT AMG GT XX – a new dimension of performance

  • Revolutionary technology offers a first look at the initial production model built on the high-performance AMG.EA architecture.
  • The innovative propulsion concept, featuring three axial-flux electric motors, delivers over 1,000 kW (>1,360 hp) of peak power.
  • A high-voltage battery with directly cooled cylindrical cells ensures top-tier, consistent performance both on the road and at charging stations.
  • Capable of recharging enough energy for approximately 400 km (WLTP) range in just five minutes—the distance from Affalterbach to Spa-Francorchamps.
  • This four-door coupé is packed with innovations, both externally and internally.

A New Beginning of Electric Performance

CONCEPT AMG GT XX marks a turning point for Mercedes‑AMG, embodying the first production model built on the AMG.EA high-performance electric platform. This four-door coupé merges cutting-edge technology, striking design, and sustainable solutions, raising the bar for electric sports cars and defining the future of performance.

Revolutionary Propulsion: Axial-Flux Motors and Next-Gen Battery

At the core of the GT XX lies a revolutionary propulsion system comprising three axial‑flux electric motors—a technology initially developed by YASA and refined by Mercedes‑AMG. These motors deliver in excess of 1,000 kW (>1,360 hp) and enable top speeds over 360 km/h. Compared to traditional radial-flux motors, axial-flux variants are three times more energy-densetwice as light, and occupy only a third of the space, offering flexibility and sustained power.

The high-voltage battery, developed from scratch and inspired by Formula 1, uses directly cooled cylindrical cells. Operating at over 800 volts, it can charge enough for 400 km WLTP in just five minutes—an industry milestone. Innovations such as laser-welded aluminum casings, full-tab technology, and NCMA cathodes (nickel/cobalt/manganese/aluminum) secure high energy density, rapid heat dissipation, and excellent durability.

Motorsport-Inspired, Built for Real Performance

The GT XX technology draws from Mercedes‑AMG’s motorsport experience, with a battery and motors engineered for sustained, repeatable power. The intelligent cooling system maintains optimal cell temperature, while AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive dynamically distributes torque for maximum grip. The front motor acts as a booster and can be decoupled for efficiency when not needed.

Innovative Production and Sustainability

The production of axial-flux motors at Mercedes‑Benz’s Berlin‑Marienfelde plant involves over 100 processes, with 35 world-firsts and more than 30 patent applications. The battery and interior materials highlight AMG’s sustainability commitment, featuring biotech leather alternatives and recycled race-tire materials. For example, LABFIBER biotech leather is lighter, more durable, and fully recyclable, while the carpets are made entirely from recycled materials.

Bold Design and Aerodynamic Excellence

The GT XX exterior embodies AMG’s bold design philosophy, with a dynamic fastback silhouette, low bonnet, and sunset‑beam orange paint that shines like liquid metal. Advanced aerodynamics, with a Cd of just 0.198, active aero elements, and a Venturi underbody ensure high-speed stability and remarkable efficiency. The patent-pending active Aero Wheel dynamically optimizes brake cooling or aerodynamic performance via an integrated mini-generator. Inside, the minimalist yet luxurious cabin features black surfaces with silver and orange accents, exposed structural elements, and illuminated “high-voltage” orange tubing. A two-screen purist cockpit keeps the driver focused, and seats are 3D-printed, upholstered in biotech leather for personalized comfort. The steering wheel and controls draw inspiration from the AMG ONE hypercar, highlighting the car’s motorsport DNA.

Next‑Gen Digital Experience

The rear MBUX Fluid Light panel, featuring over 700 programmable RGB LEDs, enables real-time communication with the exterior—displaying charging status or digital logos. The Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and exclusive MBUX interface deliver an intuitive and emotional user experience, showcasing the electric propulsion system’s features.

Setting New Standards for Future Sports Cars

The CONCEPT AMG GT XX is more than a pure performance showcase—it’s a blueprint for the electric future of sports cars. With its revolutionary propulsion system, next-gen battery technology, sustainable materials, and bold design, it sets new benchmarks in the high-performance segment. As Mercedes‑AMG prepares for series production in 2026, the GT XX demonstrates that the heart of an AMG will always remain the engine—now reimagined for the electric era.
