Uber has announced the launch in Romania of special accounts for seniors, a new feature that makes the Uber app easier to use and more accessible for older adults. Whether it’s a ride to a medical appointment, a visit to family, or weekly grocery shopping, the new product is designed to help seniors move more easily and confidently, while also offering peace of mind to their loved ones.
The new accounts are available through family profiles in the app. Moreover, senior accounts also come with a simplified version of the Uber app, with larger text and the option for a trusted family member to provide remote assistance. For seniors who prefer to request rides independently, the simplified mode can be activated in the app’s accessibility settings.

Senior accounts offer, more specifically, an easier way to ride: larger text, fewer steps, and buttons that are visible and easy to press. Users can save favorite locations, choose flexible payment methods, and allow loved ones to track trips in real time. Family members can also request or manage rides remotely, making travel more accessible and safer for older adults.
How it works:
- A family member creates a family profile in the Uber app and invites a senior to join.
- The senior receives a message with a link to download the app and create an account.
- Once set up, they can request rides independently or allow help from a family member when needed.
- Even for seniors who are not part of a family profile, the simplified mode can be activated from accessibility settings, offering a streamlined experience with full account control.
According to Age UK, nearly 40% of people over the age of 65 feel digitally excluded, and transportation remains one of the biggest barriers to independence and social connection. Developed with input from seniors and accessibility experts, these features are part of Uber’s ongoing commitment to building inclusive technology and removing mobility barriers.
Senior accounts and the simplified mode are available starting today in all cities across Romania, and the rollout will continue in other countries throughout the year.
Important: the senior and the family profile organizer do not need to live in the same city.
The launch in Romania follows successful rollouts in the United States, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico, showcasing Uber’s commitment to building technology that works for every stage of life.
