Prada’s Fall 2024 Men’s Collection has unveiled a remarkable fusion of business attire and environmental awareness at its latest fashion show. The Italian fashion giant, renowned for its innovative approach, transformed the conventional office setting into a serene, natural backdrop, eloquently named “Human Nature.”
As attendees entered the venue, they were greeted by blue office cubicles, complete with swiveling black chairs and computer screens showcasing Prada’s iconic branding. This initial setup, reminiscent of a typical office environment, paved the way for an extraordinary transition. The main stage revealed a striking glass runway, elevated above a picturesque scene of flowing water, stones, and autumn leaves, symbolizing the intersection of the corporate world and the natural environment.
Miuccia Prada, during a backstage interview, shared her perspective on the untouchable essence of nature, expressing a hint of trepidation towards this theme. Complementing her vision, Raf Simons, the co-creative force behind Prada, reflected on the influence of varying environments on the collection. He emphasized the concept of echoing surroundings and the fluid shift between the contrasting realms of office life and nature.
The collection commenced with an impactful auditory experience, setting the tone for the formidable subject matter. The first look introduced the standout element of the collection: vibrantly colored headgear resembling swim caps, snugly fitting the models’ heads. These pieces, varying in hues like red, purple, green, and more, showcased a unique waffle-like texture upon closer examination.
Simon’s focus on “natural rhythms” was evident in the collection’s design language. The clothing responded to the diverse environmental inspirations, balancing functional office wear with elements inspired by nature. From the warmth-inducing headpieces and form-fitting trousers ideal for colder days, to the boxy suits and button-up shirts designed for indoor environments, each piece served a unique purpose while adhering to an instinctive design ethos.
The collection also featured monochrome turtlenecks, vibrant cardigans layered over pastel T-shirts, and occasional balaclavas peeking from under sweaters, creating a dynamic contrast. Outerwear like woolen peacoats, trenches, and overcoats stayed true to a neutral palette, resonating with the collection’s leather and nylon items.
Accessories played a significant role, with oversized, jagged belts and ample-sized leather bags catering to the working professional. Sandals in lively colors provided a playful twist to formal wear, while shiny dress shoes maintained the office-ready look.
Reflecting on the collection, Miuccia Prada spoke about fashion’s cyclical nature, drawing parallels to the arts and the constant quest for renewal. She emphasized fashion’s role in inspiring fresh perspectives, mirroring the rejuvenating effect of changing seasons.
In the next season, Prada envisions the modern man balancing his professional life with an awakened curiosity for the environment. Dressed in traditional suits, accentuated with statement ties and the unique, colorful headwear, the Prada Man is set to explore beyond the office, embodying the essence of ‘Human Nature.’
