Lanvin, France’s oldest couture house, has announced the appointment of Peter Copping as its new artistic director, effective September 2024. Copping, a seasoned designer with past tenures at Balenciaga, Oscar de la Renta, and Nina Ricci, brings a wealth of experience to his new role at Lanvin. His recent work at Balenciaga involved a revival of the house’s couture line, contributing to the elevation of its haute couture profile with celebrity dressing for high-profile events such as the Met Gala and the Oscars.
This strategic move comes after a turbulent period for Lanvin, which included multiple changes in creative leadership and corporate management following its acquisition by China’s Fosun Group. Copping’s appointment is part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate the brand, known for its classic French chic, amidst the fast-evolving fashion landscape.
Under Copping’s creative direction, Lanvin is expected to reconnect with its historic roots while pushing forward into new territories of design and innovation. His predecessor, Bruno Sialleli, departed the company in April 2023, leading to an interim period where collections were managed by studio teams and external creatives.
Copping’s vision for Lanvin is anticipated to steer the brand towards a new era of glamour and sophistication, aligning with the house’s storied heritage and its ambitions for the future.
