On June 21, the beaches at Sovata open!

On June 21, the beaches at Sovata open and summer officially begins. It’s well-known that summer in Sovata starts with the opening of Lake Ursu Beach. So come to Sovata, in the heart of Transylvania, and enjoy the sun and vacation, right on the shores of Lake Ursu.

From June 21, Lake Ursu is waiting for you to take a dip! Come and float on the lake right on the opening day! Whether you choose to take a bath in the lake for relaxation or health, you should know that you can enjoy the sun and vacation, safely on the shores of Lake Ursu. “Lake Ursu is in excellent condition, the water tests came out very well, so on June 21 we are starting a new bathing season in the largest heliothermal lake in the world,” informs Andrei Rusu, General Manager of Ensana Health Spa Hotels Sovata. Lake Ursu in the balneoclimatic resort of Sovata is the largest heliothermal lake in the world. It has the highest saline concentration on the planet and has reached 149 years since its formation, being the only one whose exact year, day, hour, and minute of formation are known. Thus, based on research conducted by historian Jozsa Andras, it was established that Lake Ursu was formed in 1875, on May 27, at 11:00 AM, on the site of a pasture through which two streams flowed, disappearing into a hole dug in the salt mountain. According to the historian, following a torrential rain, the waters carried the hay and plant debris from the pasture and blocked the hole in the salt mountain. With an area of 40,000 square meters, a depth of 18 meters, and an average salinity of 300 grams/liter, Lake Ursu is a true source of health. The phenomenon of heliothermy characteristic of Lake Ursu occurred thanks to the continuous flow into the lake of a stream and precipitation, which formed a protective layer of freshwater over the salty water, creating a greenhouse effect, and thus, ensuring the heating of the salty water layers from the depths. The therapeutic effects of the water and mud from the lake are well known, forming the basis of treatments for rheumatic, dermatological, gynecological conditions, or respiratory diseases.

Take note! The water has a perfect temperature: 28°C at the surface and 39°C at a depth of 1.5 meters. Between 13:00 – 15:00 there is a break, during which time the lake rests. Thus, during this time interval, exiting the lake is mandatory, but visitors can remain on the beach premises. Ticket prices The price of admission tickets to Lake Ursu Beach, managed by Ensana hotels in Sovata, is 50 RON for adults and 40 RON for children and pensioners. Customers can purchase tickets with multiple entries, valid for several days. Between 13:00 and 15:00, the lake is put to “rest”. Specifically, we allow the freshwater to form its protective layer over the salty water and, thus, to heat it again. During this time, visitors can stay within the beach premises, but entering the water is not allowed. Depending on weather conditions, Lake Ursu welcomes visitors until mid-September. Choose Sovata as your vacation destination and enjoy the healing power of nature! We are waiting for you all to take a health bath in the largest heliothermal lake in Europe.
