Kim Jones, the renowned British designer, will step down from Fendi, where he served as the artistic director of womenswear and couture . According to an official statement, Jones announced that he will now fully focus on his role as the menswear artistic director at Dior, part of the LVMH group. A new creative leadership for FENDI will be announced in due time.
Jones took on the role at Fendi in 2020, in addition to his responsibilities at Dior , as the Italian fashion house sought to reignite growth following the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the passing of Karl Lagerfeld , who led the brand for over 50 years.
Known for his sophisticated aesthetic, which blends regal tailoring with influences from streetwear culture , Jones has collaborated with major brands like Nike and Stone Island. He has also enriched his collections by working with renowned artists like Kaws , Judy Blame , and Hilton Nel.
Before joining Dior in 2018, Jones built a strong reputation in luxury menswear during his tenures at Louis Vuitton and Dunhill . At Fendi , Jones explored the brand’s Roman elegance while refreshing the playful pop-luxury aesthetic that Lagerfeld brought to the house, using a palette of beiges and pastels.
This shake-up comes amid a wave of strategic reconfigurations in the fashion industry, as overall sales slow across the sector. Recently, LVMH confirmed Heidi Slimsne’s departure from Celine , followed by the appointment of Michael Rider as his replacement. In September, Sarah Burton was named the new creative director at Givenchy.
Jones’ decision to fully dedicate himself to Dior seems to quell speculation that a creative change may happen at Christian Dior as well. Recently, there were rumors that Jonathan Anderson , the designer at Loewe , might be promoted to oversee both menswear and womenswear at Dior.
