IKEA transforms light and sound into statements of style together with Swedish designer Teklan

IKEA and Swedish designer Tekla Evelina Severin, known as “Teklan,” present a new range of products that blend technology with style and elegance. Born from a collaboration that emphasizes expressiveness, the range is vibrant and playful and includes high-quality products and audio systems with bold design and unexpected color combinations, meant to highlight electronic devices in the home.

“Electronic equipment is often perceived as purely functional, and many people prefer to hide it,” says Sara Ottosson, Product Developer at IKEA Sweden. “We want to change that. In the past few years, we have learned a lot about developing high-quality audio systems and about how people want to showcase them in their homes. We give these devices the same attention as other furniture pieces, so they contribute to the atmosphere and personality of a room not only through sound but also through form, color, and character.”

The collaboration is based on the artist’s distinctive chromatic language and her way of blending playful notes with geometric shapes, often exploring how two-dimensional and three-dimensional design come together to create depth and dynamism. Teklan’s creative approach, alongside IKEA’s design expertise, integrates color, light, and sound into expressive pieces, transforming the electronic devices we use daily and naturally incorporating them into the home environment.

“Color is such a powerful and emotional tool it can completely change how we perceive an object and shape the mood of a room. We wanted to give technology this delicate and friendly touch, helping people see their home equipment differently and also bringing more color to their space, day by day,” says Teklan.

All audio systems are designed with the idea that the devices that bring sound into a room should also add personality, even when not in use. The SOLSKYDD family, which is also available in a white version created outside the collaboration with Teklan, is designed by Swedish designer Ola Wihlborg in both form and technical features. The range includes three round Bluetooth speakers in different sizes, each with its own personality. The first two a small portable model in orange with a distinct graphic composition and a medium-sized green version with brown and beige diagonal stripes can be hung or placed on their dedicated stands. The largest model, designed to be mounted on the wall, has a textured orange finish and can be connected to a screen. The color palettes and finishes Teklan uses give these devices a two-dimensional front appearance, creating special motion effects. All speakers can connect to one another as well as to other Bluetooth speakers compatible with IKEA’s multi-speaker system. They also support Spotify Tap, allowing music to start instantly from where it was paused, with a single press.

The KULGLASS speaker-lamps, available in shades of green and reddish-brown with pink, bring together light, sound, and color in a single device. Their design is friendly, resembling a silhouette, and the shade is inspired by the shape of a cone-shaped ice cream. “I wanted this friendly shape to contrast with the technical complexity we usually associate with high-quality sound. Although the interior is advanced, the exterior is simple, warm, easy to understand. As for the colors, I wanted to recreate a calming, nostalgic atmosphere. The mint green is inspired by childhood, and I even went back to my grandparents’ house to find the exact shade of an old soap I remembered,” explains the Swedish artist.

The range also includes a reinterpretation of the classic round FADO lamp, designed to spread soft and pleasant diffused light. In addition, at the beginning of this year, as part of the collaboration with Teklan, IKEA launched two new color variants for the VAPPEBY speaker and 14 braided charging cables SITTBRUNN, RUNDHULT, and LILLHULT inspired by climbing ropes and created in bold retro colors.

The new range created in collaboration with the Swedish artist will be available globally, both in stores and online, starting January 2026, including in Romania.
