Gucci SS25: A tribute to obsession with heritage and ’60s glamour

At the heart of Milan’s Triennale di Milano, Sabato de Sarno delivered an awe-inspiring Spring/Summer 2025 womenswear collection that celebrates Gucci’s heritage through the lens of obsession. With iconic figures like Dakota Johnson and Kirsten Dunst in the front row and a soundtrack created by Mark Ronson and Julian Dobson, De Sarno’s collection revisited the House’s most beloved pieces while infusing them with modern elegance.

The focus of the show was on Gucci’s legendary leather goods, particularly the Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag, which made a grand return. This time, the classic design was enhanced with subtle contemporary touches, including the use of leather, lacquer, and Plexiglas, while a special edition created by Japanese artists marked the brand’s 60th year in Japan. Bamboo details also adorned various mini accessories, while the Horsebit motif appeared on everything from the 73 Bucket Bag to a wide array of footwear, including platforms, creepers, and ballerinas, all paying homage to Gucci’s iconic symbols.

De Sarno’s ready-to-wear collection drew inspiration from the 1960s, with structured coats, A-line skirts, and shorts that channeled the sophistication of the Space Age, the youthful spirit of Swinging London, and the timeless elegance of Jackie Kennedy. The GG monogram appeared on formal coats, and leather silhouettes stood as powerful statements of style. Lace dresses and glimpses of lingerie added a touch of feminine allure, while the color palette — featuring Gucci Rosso Ancora, lime green, citrus orange, white, and grey — balanced vibrancy and subtlety.

The show concluded with a powerful finale set to Fiordaliso’s “Non Voglio Mica La Luna,” as the models marched in unison through the venue. De Sarno described the moment as “a precise moment in time… a moment to seize and live to the fullest.” With his fresh take on some of Gucci’s most cherished designs, De Sarno aims to reignite the brand’s historical allure and fiscal success.
