Europe’s best handball nations ready for a new battle for glory
Bucharest, January 19th 2026. January 2026 will once again bring Europe together through top-class handball. The Men’s EHF EURO 2026 promises thrilling competition, world-class athletes and unforgettable moments as the best national teams fight for one of the most prestigious trophies in European sport.
Hosted jointly by Denmark, Sweden and Norway, the championship will highlight not only outstanding handball, but also the strong Nordic passion for the game, creating the perfect stage for another spectacular edition of the tournament.
The best handball Europe has to offer
The Men’s EHF EURO 2026, taking place from 15 January to 1 February 2026, will bring together 24 national teamscompeting for the highest honours in European handball. With former champions, ambitious challengers and many of the world’s top players on the court, the tournament promises intense matches, dramatic moments and elite-level performances throughout.
Since the first Men’s EHF EURO, only a handful of nations have managed to lift the trophy, a testament to the extremely high level of competition. Each new edition brings fresh stories, new heroes and the constant question: who will rise above the rest this time?
Can the favourites be challenged again?
Traditional handball powerhouses such as Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany and Spain have shaped the history of the Men’s EHF EURO, but every championship also opens the door for surprises. With the quality gap between teams becoming ever smaller, the Men’s EHF EURO 2026 is set to deliver another unpredictable and exciting tournament.
The Romanian Handball Federation recently announced, via its official Facebook page, the squad of 18 players that Romania’s head coach, George Buricea, will have at his disposal for the Men’s EHF EURO 2026. The national team will approach the competition with a roster that includes six players from Romania’s reigning champions, Dinamo Bucharest.
At the final tournament, Romania will compete in Group B, where they are set to face Portugal on 16 January, Denmarkon 18 January and North Macedonia on 20 January. All of Romania’s matches will be played in Herning, Denmark.
