Versace has announced a significant shift in its creative leadership: Dario Vitale, the former design and image director at Miu Miu, will take over as the chief creative officer of the fashion house, succeeding the iconic Donatella Versace, BoF has exclusively confirmed.
Donatella Versace, who has led the creative direction of the brand founded by her late brother, Gianni, for nearly three decades, will transition to the role of chief brand ambassador. “It has been the greatest honor of my life to carry on my brother Gianni’s legacy,” said Donatella Versace, expressing her excitement to “see Versace through new eyes.” In her new role, Donatella will focus on supporting the brand’s philanthropic efforts, including activities of the Versace Foundation.
This change comes as the Prada Group, owner of Miu Miu, is nearing the completion of acquiring Versace from Capri Holdings in a deal estimated at $1.5 billion, a move that would bring Vitale back into the Prada fold. The American group, still feeling the effects of an $8.5 billion deal to merge with Coach owner Tapestry being blocked by the US Federal Trade Commission last year, is re-evaluating its portfolio, which also includes Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo.
