Romanian gymnast Ana Maria Bărbosu has won the gold medal in the floor final at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Leipzig, Germany, bringing Romania its first gold medal on this apparatus after a five-year break.
In the final held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, Bărbosu scored 13.833 points, surpassing Italy’s Manila Esposito (13.700) and Spain’s Alba Petisco (13.566).
This remarkable performance comes after Bărbosu also won three other medals at the same championship: silver on beam (13.666), bronze in the all-around, and bronze on uneven bars.
With these results, Bărbosu brought home all four of Romania’s medals from the European Championships in Leipzig, strengthening her role as the leader of the national team.
This is Romania’s first gold medal on floor at the European Championships since Larisa Iordache’s victory in 2020.
At just 18 years old, Ana Maria Bărbosu, originally from Focșani, is considered one of Romania’s most promising gymnasts. Last year, she earned a bronze medal on floor at the Paris Olympic Games, following a controversial decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which annulled the medal initially awarded to American gymnast Jordan Chiles, due to a late appeal.
Currently, Ana Bărbosu is preparing for new challenges, including competing in the U.S. collegiate gymnastics system, after being accepted to the prestigious Stanford University.
Her achievements at the European Championships in Leipzig confirm her talent and determination and offer new hope for the future of Romanian gymnastics.
