adidas launches the historic FIFA World Cup Ball Collection

adidas today launches the Historical World Cup Ball Collection, a premium collector’s edition celebrating over five decades of the brand’s iconic partnership with the FIFA World Cup. The set includes high-quality replicas of all 15 official adidas match balls used so far, starting with Telstar, the ball of the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, and continuing up to the new official Trionda ball of the 2026 tournament.
Each set comes in a special presentation case designed to highlight the evolution of adidas ball design over the years, making it the perfect piece for global football fans and collectors.

Conceived as a curated journey through the greatest football competitions in the world, the collection pays tribute to bold designs, technological innovation and the cultural impact of some of the most memorable balls used in the tournament’s history.

Since 1970, adidas has created a unique ball for every FIFA World Cup edition, beginning with Telstar (1970) and Telstar Durlast (1974), followed by the emblematic Tango models (1978, 1982). Azteca (1986) opened a new era, and the ’90s brought unforgettable designs such as Etrusco Unico (1990), Questra (1994) and Tricolore (1998).

The 2000s introduced bold innovations with Fevernova (2002) and Teamgeist (2006), the latter featuring rounded, non-traditional panels unlike any ball used previously at a World Cup. This was followed by Jabulani (2010) and the high-performance Brazuca (2014).
Recent tournaments brought modern reinterpretations with Telstar 18 (2018), Al Rihla (2022) and its knockout phase variant, Al Hilm (2022).

This evolution of design and technology now continues with Trionda  the new official ball for the FIFA World Cup 2026 launched earlier in October.

The FIFA World Cup Historical Mini Ball Set launches today and includes all 15 official balls. All mini models are laminated and feature a foam core, highlighting adidas’ unique approach to ball construction while preserving the aesthetic and character of the original versions.
The mini ball set is available starting today for €250 in selected stores and online at adidas.ro.

The FIFA World Cup Historical Pro Ball Set (size 5) will be launched in early 2026 as a limited edition of fewer than 3,000 units. Each ball is an almost identical reproduction of the originals, produced using the same technology available at the time of their initial release. The Pro Set will be priced at €2,500 and is aimed at collectors seeking the most authentic match ball experience.

Launched in parallel with the Pro Ball Set, the FIFA World Cup Historical Club Ball Set (size 5) will be available globally, except in Europe, at a price of €400. Each ball features a uniform TPU surface and machine-stitched construction, offering a more commercially accessible version of the historic and current designs while preserving the original visual legacy.

Later, in March 2026, adidas will launch two additional regional limited-edition sets, each available in only 2,026 units.
The FIFA World Cup Historic Mexico Ball Set will be available exclusively in LAM, while the FIFA World Cup Historic USA Ball Set will be exclusive to NAM.
