The Romanian film “That March”, directed by Iura Luncașu, continues its international journey and will be presented within the Marché du Film, the official market of the Cannes Film Festival, one of the most important meeting points of the global cinematographic industry.
The presence within the Marché du Film represents an important step for the Romanian production, which thus enters an international context dedicated to distributors, streaming platforms, producers and film industry professionals from around the world.
Inspired by the novel signed by Olivia Odăianu, “That March” is a psychological thriller with dramatic accents, which follows the story of a young man caught in a spiral of emotional manipulation, trauma and choices that completely change his life. The film explores themes such as vulnerability, identity and the impact of toxic relationships, in a tense and cinematic atmosphere.
The cast brings together both Romanian and international actors: Mădălina Bellariu Ion, known to international audiences including for her appearance in The Young Pope, Eduard Trică, Esther Acebo, known for the role of Stockholm in La Casa de Papel, Costas Mandylor from the Saw franchise, as well as Luke Roberts and Didi Anderson.
Filmed in Romania and Spain, including in the spectacular Castell de Peñíscola, the project has built an international direction from the very beginning, both through its cast and through the visual and thematic ambition of the production.
Also during this period, the Romanian production was acquired by one of the most important independent sales and international distribution companies in Hollywood. Founded in 2010 by producer Andre Relis and headquartered in the heart of Hollywood, the company specialises in worldwide distribution, film financing and production and has in its portfolio titles and collaborations with important names from the international industry, such as Nicolas Cage, John Malkovich, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Willem Dafoe, Liam Hemsworth and Jon Hamm.
“Together with our partners in the United States, the film will be distributed internationally across all available territories and is currently present at the Marché du Film, within the Cannes Film Festival.
For us, this step confirms the direction we pursued from the very beginning: that of taking a story inspired by a Romanian book, made with an international team and cast, to audiences around the world.
As the territories and distribution platforms are confirmed, we will return with information about the countries and places where the film will be able to be seen. We are proud that ‘That March’ moves forward and that a story born in Romania has the chance to reach audiences from as many corners of the world as possible,” declared Nicu Claudiu Moldovan.
Following this partnership, the film will benefit from international distribution across all available territories, and the international launch, including the debut on the American market, is scheduled for September 2026.
