Moles are a natural part of our skin, yet very few of us truly know how to interpret them correctly. Dermatologist Dr. Amalia Anghel explains in the video below that not all moles are the same and that the difference between them can matter enormously for our health.
There are three main categories of skin lesions that we need to be aware of.
The first category is benign lesions – ordinary moles with a uniform appearance, homogeneous colour and regular contour. These present no risk and require no intervention, only periodic monitoring.
The second category includes suspicious lesions, which fall into a grey area. These present asymmetry meaning the two halves of the mole are not identical – and require careful dermatological evaluation. They are not automatically dangerous, but they must be closely monitored and assessed by a specialist.
The third category is malignant lesions, which require urgent medical intervention. Identifying them in time is essential for effective treatment.
The basic rule is simple: never ignore any change. If a mole changes its shape, colour or size, or if bleeding appears, consult a dermatologist as soon as possible.
