With still three years to go until the next major event, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics might see the participation of the famous rapper Kendrick Lamar, according to revelations made by Casey Wasserman, his agent and the chairman of the Olympic organizing committee.
Casey Wasserman, who represents Kendrick Lamar in his day job and also serves as the chairman of the Olympic organizing committee, told The Associated Press that Lamar, a native of Compton, could play a role in the 2028 event. “Fortunately, in my main job, I represent Kendrick Lamar,” he said. “He is truly an LA icon, so I think it’s a safe bet that Kendrick will be involved in some way in the Los Angeles Olympics.”
Furthermore, Wasserman mentioned that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) intends to help rebuild the city of Los Angeles after the recent devastating wildfires. “The rebirth, the reconstruction, maybe reimagining LA 2.0—and the Olympics as a catalyst for all these things—we believe is really part of our ethos,” Wasserman shared. “You can’t have a natural disaster of this magnitude in a city as big and as important as Los Angeles and not have it be part of your core philosophy moving forward.”
“Everyone loves a comeback story,” Wasserman added in discussions with the IOC, noting that from an Olympic perspective they were “very lucky” because the venues and operational plans were not severely affected. “But that’s not the most important thing. What’s important is helping people get back into their homes, get resettled, get back with their lives.”
