A new global study conducted by adidas, which surveyed 2,674 runners across 11 cities worldwide, reveals that wearing uncomfortable running shoes is a top reason for unpleasant running experiences (47%). Other barriers include unsuitable weather—whether too hot (45%) or too cold (43%), lack of motivation (38%), and running on uneven or slippery surfaces (37%).
Nearly a quarter of survey respondents (23%) chose not to run due to these barriers, with improper running shoes being the primary reason. Even for runners who persevere, the impact of discomfort is evident. Nearly four out of ten (37%) reduced their running distance, a third (29%) said it affected their mood, and a similar number (33%) opted to change their running route.
