More and more families in Romania are turning to Uber Teens for daily trips, new data shows
Bucharest, 24 March. Uber Teens, the functionality launched in Romania to help families organise safe rides for teenagers aged between 13 and 17, is rapidly becoming part of the way Romanian families manage their day-to-day mobility.
New Uber data shows strong growth in adoption since launch, highlighting the fact that parents and teenagers are increasingly relying on the platform for their everyday journeys.
According to Uber data, the number of active Uber Teens users has grown more than tenfold since launch, reflecting the growing demand for flexible transport options specifically designed for families.
“We are seeing more and more Romanian families integrating Uber Teens into their daily routine, whether it is the journey to school, extracurricular activities or outings with friends. For parents, it is about greater visibility and peace of mind, while for teenagers it brings a new level of independence. Our goal is to continue developing a product that balances both freedom and safety”, says Ana-Maria Borlovan, General Manager Uber Romania & CEE.
Daily routines generate the majority of trips
Uber Teens journeys are largely tied to teenagers’ daily routines. The majority of trips take place during the day, with approximately 76% of rides completed between 07:00 and 18:00, generally corresponding to the school schedule, extracurricular activities or commuting between home and school.
Evenings also account for a significant share, with approximately 20% of trips taking place between 19:00 and 23:00, when teenagers travel to social activities or meetings with friends.
Friday leads the weekly rankings
In terms of weekly distribution, Friday stands out as the most popular day for Uber Teens journeys, accounting for approximately 17.5% of total weekly rides. This suggests that the service is frequently used at the end of the school week, when teenagers take part in social activities, sports training or spend time with friends.
A service that is becoming a habit for teenagers
The data also shows that Uber Teens is becoming part of the mobility habits of many families. Approximately 80% of teenagers use the service more than once a month, indicating consistent rather than occasional use.
Bucharest leads in adoption
Bucharest is currently the city with the highest Uber Teens adoption rate, accounting for approximately 70% of total teenage users in Romania, followed by other major university centres such as Timișoara and Iași.
Safety for families
Safety remains at the heart of the Uber Teens experience, through a series of features designed to give parents greater visibility and peace of mind.
Parents can track every ride in real time through the live tracking function in the app and can receive essential details such as the driver’s name, vehicle information and arrival location. Before getting into the car, teenagers must confirm a unique PIN code with the driver, to ensure they are getting into the correct vehicle. The RideCheck feature uses GPS and sensors to detect unexpected stops or route deviations and automatically checks if something unusual occurs. Furthermore, parents can contact the driver or Uber’s safety line at any time during the journey.
Only highly rated, experienced and fully authorised drivers can receive requests from teenage accounts.
