Nearly 7,000 students from 51 schools across Romania are learning how to protect nature, how to recycle and reuse recyclable waste through the Doers School program, created by Let’s Do It, Romania!. The largest civic movement in Romania continues to expand the ecosystem of partner schools created in 2025, which integrates ecological education, awareness of sustainability and responsible behavior, the development of civic spirit and teamwork, and concrete action in the everyday lives of students. Out of more than 540 schools that registered, 51 have become part of the second edition of Doers School.
Children from grades 0–VIII from 31 counties across the country learn environmental education theory through interactive presentations and also practice through interactive projects, games, experiments, community clean-up actions and a national Trash Art competition, where they create art objects from recyclable materials.
Practical examples such as how to identify polluted soil or water, how to measure air pollution, how to create natural water filters or the greenhouse effect, how to create compost, how to make figurines, games or puzzles from recycled materials and many other activities are taught in Doers School classrooms.
Students also receive the guide of the young journalist, called “Little Environmental Journalists”, through which they learn how to go out in the field and report environmental issues they observe, whether it is waste, pollution or floods.
“Doers School integrates art, creativity, journalism and technical presentations in a mix of activities designed to cover all the needs a child may have in the current global context. The success of this initiative is based on the close collaboration between schools, authorities, companies and specialists. I am grateful to see how this project has grown naturally and has the real potential to reach as many schools in Romania as possible,” says Agata Bulei, Project Manager Let’s Do It, Romania!
458 teachers have embraced these courses, and students are excited to participate in as many projects as possible within the Doers School program. The theme of the Trash Art competition is “If Waste Came to Life” and focuses on the creative interpretation of how waste affects the environment and the community. The final of the competition will take place on April 16 and three prizes will be awarded to the finalists.
