Japan has won the hearts of Romanians and has become one of the most popular summer destinations. According to Kiwi.com, a leader in travel-tech, interest in flights to Japan has grown spectacularly: in the first half of the year, there were over 55% more bookings compared to 2024, and in the summer season alone, there were 50% more bookings than in the previous summer.
Flights to Japan have become considerably more affordable: the average cost of a ticket has dropped by almost 20% compared to last summer, reaching approximately 360 euros. Thus, authentic Japanese experiences, from walks among the blooming cherry trees to sushi evenings or exploring vibrant metropolises, are more accessible than ever. In addition, Romanians do not limit themselves to city breaks: the average length of stay exceeds 12 nights, and bookings are made more than 76 days in advance, a sign that careful planning and meaningful vacations are gaining ground.

Family trips are booming in 2025. Their share has tripled compared to last summer, increasing from 5% in 2024 to 17% in 2025. At the same time, couple trips have slightly decreased, from 43% to 39%, and solo trips have seen a more significant decline, from 46% to 36%. Whether visiting temples with loved ones or discovering Tokyo’s vibrant nightlife with friends, Romanians are increasingly choosing shared experiences.
For many tourists, however, Japan is only the starting point of a broader adventure in Asia. More than two-thirds of Romanians combine their visit to the Land of the Rising Sun with destinations such as South Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand, using hubs like Bucharest, Budapest, Seoul, or even Chișinău. Itineraries that include multiple countries are more popular than ever, and the Kiwi.com platform makes planning them much easier.
When it comes to preferred destinations, Romanians remain loyal to major attractions, with Tokyo, Osaka, and Okinawa Island occupying the top spots. However, 2025 also brings remarkable diversification: in the first six months of the year, Romanians have discovered 15 Japanese cities, compared to only 6 last year.
Summer remains, without a doubt, the favorite season for visiting, with July and August at the top of the ranking. Whether they go for festivals, outdoor adventures, or simply to explore Japan’s fascinating culture, Romanians are looking for unforgettable stories and memories with their loved ones. In 2025, Japan is not just a vacation destination but a memorable experience.
