Autumn’s favorite destinations: Malta, Singapore, and Sweden lead Romanians’ preferences

Bucharest, September 5. This autumn, Romanians are diversifying their vacations and increasingly choosing combinations of sunny islands, vibrant cities, and authentic cultural experiences. Kiwi.com, a leader in travel-tech, presents the season’s trends based on its latest internal data.

Malta is the surprise of the season, entering directly into the top destinations and recording an increase of over 122% in bookings compared to last year. The Mediterranean country manages to preserve the summer atmosphere, combining sunny beaches with a rich cultural heritage.

Singapore shows the most spectacular growth: 141%, attracting Romanian tourists through its unique mix of modernity and exoticism. Sweden is also enjoying a wave of popularity, with a 108% increase, showing that Romanians are increasingly tempted by Nordic getaways. Poland (+64%) and Indonesia (+35%) also rank among the fastest-growing destinations.

Classic preferences, however, remain just as popular. Italy, France, and Greece continue to be among the most sought-after destinations, with increases of 13–25% compared to last autumn. Cyprus stands out with a 70% boost, clearly showing that Romanians want diversity: from sunny beaches to lively cities and cultural richness.

City breaks remain a constant choice, with London, Milan, and Rome at the top of the lists. Still, growing interest in Larnaca, Naples, and Nice shows that Romanians are increasingly looking for destinations with personality—photogenic places, different from the classic tourist routes.

There’s good news also for those monitoring prices: autumn airfares are not only 2% cheaper than last year but also 16% more affordable than during peak summer season. The average price of €130 makes this period an inspired choice for those who want to discover new destinations without allocating an exorbitant budget.

As for departures, Henri Coandă Airport remains the main starting point, serving over 72% of Romanian travelers this season. However, smaller airports are gaining ground: Băneasa is growing rapidly, while Craiova impresses with a nearly 67% increase in passenger numbers compared to 2024.

From Mediterranean sunshine to the crisp Nordic air, Romanians are choosing an autumn full of variety, with new experiences and journeys that promise both relaxation and inspiration.
